Spot the new – Bush House Stone Carved Lettering

Cut into the Portland stone above the entrances to the four wings of Bush House are classically crafted ‘V’ carved lettering identifying each wing.

Of the eight signs two are new although you would be hard pressed to identify which.

To replicate the original letter form carvings we took rubbings from numerous letters and then digitised them to understand the letter formation in precise detail. After hand drawing the letters in situ they were hammer and chisel carved and finally painted black to replicate the originals.

Completing the identification of all of the entrances to the wings was essential for building navigation. Attention to the right details implemented with care and skill are qualities that underpin our long relationship with King’s College.
